Saturday, February 15 is Tết – the Vietnamese Lunar New Year. And, Bánh Tét is prepared, purchased, and given or received as a gift by every household in Vietnam.
Bánh Tét has many legends associated with its origins. From the favorite food produced for a king by one of his sons in a sibling competition, to the unique food that allowed Vietnamese soldiers to sustain themselves during a hard winter and drive out invading Chinese armies. But now, it simply serves as a Vietnamese New Year’s culinary tradition.
A large sausage-shaped roll consisting of sticky rice, pandan juice, mung bean, and marinated pork belly rolled together, it’s boiled for 6-10 hours inside a banana leaf wrapping. Bánh Tét keeps well, refrigerated or not, for up to one month.
We’re offering single Bánh Tét “logs”, averaging about 1.5 pounds, for $15. each. A portion of pickled daikon & carrots will be included with each Bánh Tét order.
Slices of Bánh Tét serve as a unique appetizer or side dish at every Tết meal.
ALLERGENS: If you have any allergy concerns or questions, please let us know in the comment section of your order (or by email).
